Women's Cross Country Takes the Cake Winning Mariner Invitational

BELFAST, Maine – The Husson University women's cross country team took the cake on Saturday afternoon at the Mariner Invitational, bringing home first place with three top-ten finishes for an overall 42 points. Coming in a close second, Husson edged out University of Maine-Farmington by one point (43 points) with an average team time of 22:44. The Eagles competed against four other teams. 

Junior Julia Glisson kicked it in high gear for the final stretch to snatch second place by 0.3 tenths of a second finishing with the best 5k time of the day for the Eagles with 21:48.7, pacing a 7:02 mile. 

Capturing the other top-ten times, junior Lindsey Joliat rocked a 7:08 average mile, on the tail of fourth place, just milliseconds behind in 22:07 (5th). Crossing the finish line pacing the average team time, freshman Isabelle Jackson took 9th with a time of 22:44. 

With impressive top-20 times to round out the scorers, freshmen Emily Banks and Renee Dostal earned 11th and 15th finishing with times of 23:15 and 23:46.

The Eagles will have a couple weeks off from competition before traveling to Brunswick, Maine for the Maine State Championship at Bowdoin College.
