CASTINE, Maine - The Husson University women's volleyball team traveled to compete in Smith Gymnasium on Wednesday night facing off against the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners. The Eagles dropped three-straight sets to the Mariners in a non-conference matchup, but put up a tough fight in the final set nearly overcoming MMA.
Maine Maritime Academy 3 - Husson University 0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-20)
Mariners' Rachel Melampy put up a double-double between 11 kills and 11 digs, working to aid MMA offensively and defensively on the court. Maria Perez also added 11 digs of her own out of 44 total for MMA. Alexa Cacacie hit a successful .412 attack percentage, knocking down nine kills.
Husson's offense was led by Serena Laro, Hanna Hembrow, and Mary Grace Power, all supplying two kills apiece for Husson. Adrienne Beatty came through for the Eagles' defense adding ten digs. Laro and Kayli Doten also contributed defensively adding two blocks each.
The Eagles continue their stretch on the road, traveling to Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in Standish, Maine to play against both the Monks and the Colby-Sawyer Chargers on Saturday, September 21st. The first match in the round robin opens up at 1 p.m. against the Chargers.
