MILTON, Mass. - The Husson University women's volleyball team hit the road this weekend playing two matches at Curry College, facing off against the Colonels and the Emmanuel College (Mass.) Saints. The Eagles dropped their first match to the Saints, 3-0, and followed up with a tough fight versus the Colonels resulting in a fifth deciding set before Husson fell behind, 3-2.
Emmanuel College (Mass.) 3 - Husson University 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20)
The Eagles put up a tough fight and remained within a few points of the Saints during the entire match, but were unable to pull ahead.
Jalen Winfrey set up 17 assists for the Saints, while Samantha Carriagan led Emmanuel with 13 digs. Isabella Miller led the Saints' offense with ten kills.
Eagles' senior captain Hanna Hembrow led with 17 of 19 total team assists. Sophomore libero Adrienne Beatty helped the Eagles' defensively with nine digs, while senior Mary Grace Power delivered eight kills.
Curry College 3 - Husson University 2 (25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 23-25, 15-6)
The Husson Eagles fought hard against the Curry College Colonels in their second match of the day. The Eagles lost the first two sets, but battled back taking the third and fourth sets to push the match to a fifth deciding set.
Lexi Bell led the Colonels' offense as she contributed 46 total assists. Amanda Wood recorded a match-high 24 kills while Shea Mathews pitched in 28 digs for Curry.
Hanna Hembrow dominated in the second match for Husson as she recorded a whopping 46 total assists for a new career-high to help complete a double-double with 12 digs. Mary Grace Power struck down 17 kills while Cheyenne Young posted a helpful .304 attack percentage with ten kills. Defensively, libero Adrienne Beatty supplied 26 digs and Serena Laro stopped the Colonels' attack with four block assists and one solo block.
The Eagles are back on the road again this week as they travel to Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday, September 18th to face the Mariners at 7 p.m. in Castine, Maine.
