Eagles Drop a Pair of Matches to Raptors and Banana Slugs at 2019 Slugfest

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Husson University women's volleyball team opened up the 2019 season by taking part in day one of the 2019 Slugfest at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Despite winning the first set of the day on Friday, the Eagles dropped both matches to Bard College and the host of the tournament, the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. 

Bard 3 - Husson 1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-20) 

The Eagles went back and forth with the Raptors before taking a 13-12 lead in the first set and never looking back for the win. Bard came back to win three straight sets en route to a 3-1 victory over the Eagles.

UC Santa Cruz 3 - Husson 0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-7)

Maiya Sears led the Banana Slugs with 15 kills while Claire Okerlund had eight, and Jordan Kirchner contributed six. Timolin led the back line sending over five of her teams' 12 service aces.

Cheyenna Young, Karimah Land, and Mary Grace Power each struck down with three kills for the Eagles while Hanna Hembrow dished out 11 assists.

The Eagles will close out the 2019 Slugfest and their California road trip with back-to-back matches as they take on Mills College followed by a rematch versus the Banana Slugs. The game versus Mills is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EDT while the rematch will be played at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
