BANGOR, Maine – After receiving commitments from players in Connecticut and Alaska, the Husson volleyball program aces with Cat Torres coming all the way from San Antonio, Texas.
Torres knew from a young age that she wanted to play volleyball, picking up the sport as a preteen playing on club teams for the past seven years. She's gained experience as a libero, right side hitter, and defensive specialist for San Antonio Magic, San Antonio Kryptonite, San Antonio Sting, and San Antonio Elite over the past years, all while playing on her high school varsity team from 2015-18 at St. Anthony Catholic High School. The Texan helped her high school team win the T-CAL 3A State Championship in her junior and senior seasons as she was voted on the All-State and All-District Second Team in her junior season and made the All-State and All-District First Team following the conclusion of a successful final season. In her first two seasons at St. Anthony Catholic, Torres was named to the TAPPS All-District 2-5A Honorable Mention. For her high school team, she rotated as the setter, right side hitter, and defensive specialist.
Torres kept busy with other school teams and clubs, competing on her high school varsity softball team all four years to help her team to the T-CAL Softball State Championships in back-to-back years, winning in 2017. Following her freshman year, Torres was named an Easton/NFCA High School Scholar Athlete for her performances on the diamond and in the classroom. She also dabbled with the Women's Bowling Club from 2017-19 and played the tenor drum in her school's drumline from 2018-19.
She is enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Husson University, starting her collegiate career in the Fall of 2019.
