SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The 2016 New England DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championship concluded on Saturday afternoon and the Husson University women's outdoor track & field team finished in 24th place out 31 teams who scored points with eight points. This was the best team finish for the Eagles in program history.
MIT won the team title with 123.5 points. Williams was runner-up with 86.50 points followed by Southern Maine with 59, Middlebury was fourth with 52 and UMass.-Boston rounded out the top five with 46 points.
The Eagles were led by impressive performances by Kerianne Downing and Erin Ellison, as Downing captured a fourth in the heptathlon with a school record point total of 3835 and Ellison took a sixth in the hammer with a throw of 45.79m. Ellison and Downing both earned All-New England Honors.
Casey Modery took 16th in the triple jump (9.95m) and also placed 31st in the long jump with a leap of 4.73m.
In the shot put, Faith Burnett finished 18th with a throw of 10.54m while Ellison placed 20th with 10.46m.
The Eagles will return to the track on May 18-19 for their final outdoor track meet of the 2016 season when Erin Ellison competes in the ECAC Championship Meet at Westfield State University.
