LEWISTON, Maine – The Husson women's indoor track & field team placed in the top eight in eight different events on Friday at the Maine Indoor State Championship hosted by Bates College. Overall as a team, the Eagles took home fifth place with 47.5 points while competing against five other schools.

The Eagles will be sending the entire 4x200-meter relay team to the Division III New England Championship after junior Shea Curley, sophomore Tamara Rodriguez, freshman Adreona Daniels, and sophomore Leah Desjardins raced to their fastest finish this season, 1:53.39. Their time was also fast enough for second place at the meet.

Husson will also be sending senior Faith Burnett to the Division III New England Championship to compete in the weight throw after her whopping 13.44 meter toss for the second best throw of the day. Following her lead, sophomore Megan Bataran hit 11.56m for fourth and freshman Issy Capozzi took seventh with 11.09m.

The same three Eagles placed in the top seven in shot put with Capozzi leading the way this time. The freshman sent the shot put soaring through the air 10.87m. Burnett gathered in points with her fifth place throw of 10.42m and Bataran contributed another two points in seventh (9.87m).

Two more student-athletes brought home points for Husson in field events. Junior Jessica Dessert tied for eighth in pole vault after clearing 2.30m. In the long jump, freshman Allison Kondracki covered 4.67m for seventh.

Husson sent another relay team to compete in the 4x400-meter relay. Daniels was the only runner to tackle both relays, taking up the third leg. With help from Kondracki, senior Morgan Clifford, and Dessert the group of four raced to a time of 4:45.66 (sixth).

Desjardins was the lone Eagle bringing in points in the dashes. She took fourth in the 200-meter dash crossing the finish line in 27.10 seconds and sixth in the 60-meter dash with a speedy time of 8.16 seconds.

The women will have one final chance to qualify for the DIII New England Championship when they compete at the UMaine Invitational next Saturday, February 10.
