Women's Indoor Track & Field Turns in a Good Performance at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Competing in their fifth meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Husson women's track and field team finished fourth against strong competition at the Bowdoin Invitational.

The Eagles finished the day on 72.5 points, behind the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with 165 points, Colby College with 155 points, and Bowdoin College with 143 points. The Eagles placed ahead of University of Maine-Farmington and St. Joseph's College. Thomas College also competed, but failed to score.

Freshman Leah Desjardins set a blistering pace for the Eagles on the day as she set a new school record in the 60 Meter Dash, clocking in at 8.09, good for a second-place finish and eight points.

Desjardins also helped the 4x200 Meter Relay team to a third-place finish, with a time of 1:52.59, along with Senior Casey Modery, Senior Brooke Hoople, and Freshman Heidi Ntengeri.

Junior Jaclyn MacDonald produced Husson's best finish of the day in the Pole Vault, clearing 2.45m to take first place. Sophomore Jessica Dessert rounded off the Pole Vault event with a third-place finish for the Eagles.

Husson also showed well in the High Jump, as Senior Kerianne Downing took second after clearing 1.62m, Freshman Lisa Pawlowski finished fourth, and Junior Kelly Kashian came in sixth.

Casey Modery placed in two individual events, finishing second in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9.74m and fourth in the Long Jump at 4.77m.

Senior Erin Ellison and Junior Faith Burnett also scored points in multiple events. In the Shot Put, Ellison took third with a final throw of 11.33m, while Burnett finished fourth with a final throw, and personal record, of 11.20m. In the Weight Throw, Ellison again took third with a final throw of 14.55m, and Burnett finished sixth.

Junior Paige Rainford rounded out the scoring finishes for the Eagles, taking sixth-place in the 60 Meter Hurdles, with a time of 11.91.

In all it was a good day for the Husson women, as they finished the Bowdoin Invitational with seven individual top-three finishes, and a new school record in the 60 Meter Dash. The Eagles are currently in position to send the most athletes in history to the DIII New England Championships for Indoor, with one more meet left to compete. Ellison, Burnett, Desjardins, and Hoople, along with the 4x200 relay team have all made the standards for the DIII New England Championships.

Up next for the Husson women's track and field team is the Maine State Championships at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, on Friday, February 3.
