Women’s Indoor Track & Field Successful at Southern Maine Invitational II

GORHAM, MAINE- Husson Women's Indoor Track and Field performed very well today at the Southern Maine Invitational II, despite having several team members absent due to winter break and a problem with digital scoring that left the event with hand-written times.

 In the 55 meter dash, Freshman Leah Desjardins won the race with a time of 7.3 seconds. Sophomore Shea Curley came in close behind with a time of 7.5 seconds, qualifying her for third place.

The 200 meter dash saw Desjardins come in sixth with a time of 28.70 seconds and in the 600 meter dash Freshman Heidi Ntengeri also placed sixth with a time of 1:52.

In the 55 meter hurdles, Sophomore Jessica Dessert placed fifth with a time of 11.10 seconds

Tying her personal best of 1.42 meters, Freshman Lisa Pawlowski took second in the high jump. Senior Casey Modery placed third in both the long jump and the triple jump with jumps of 4.71 meters and 9.89 meters respectively.

Junior Erin Ellison threw for 11.02 meters in the shot put which placed her second overall, however she had the farthest throw for collegiate athletes and the mark qualified her for the Division III New England Championships. Freshman Megan Bataran placed fifth in this event, with 9.55 meters.

The weight throw culminated the day's events. Ellison placed first with 14.36 meters. Freshman Megan Gale finished fifth with 8.38 meters, her new personal record and top ten all time distance. Bataran finished sixth with 8.10 meters.

The Husson Women's Track & Field Team will compete on Saturday January 14 at Bowdoin with a full team. Events begin at 12 p.m. EST.
