WOBURN, Mass. - Seven women were selected to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Tennis All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the 2019 East Division Championship tournament on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Husson University sophomore Natalie Tilton (Lincoln, Maine) earned MVP honors while senior teammates and doubles partners Jocelyn Bell(Holden, Maine) and Marisa Brown (Lincoln, Maine) also made the team. Lesley University was represented by senior Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and first-year Grace Jovanovich. Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) senior Alyssa Keegan (Levittown, N.Y.) and Northern Vermont-Lyndon senior Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan) were also recognized for their performance at the tournament.
MVP - Natalie Tilton, Husson (pictured above with NAC Commissioner Marcella Zalot) - Tilton was perfect in the final round at #2 singles, picking up the win without dropping a game (6-0, 6-0). She also partnered with Hannah Malinen at #1 doubles for an 8-6 victory in the final match after defeating the top NVU-Lyndon pair 8-1 in the semifinal round. Her singles match against the Hornets was incomplete because the match was played to decision, though she led 6-2, 2-0 at the time of decision.
Jocelyn Bell, Husson - Bell clinched the championship win for the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles. She and #3 doubles partner Marisa Brown defeated the Lynx duo 8-6 in the final round after defeating the NVU-Lyndon pair 8-0 in the semifinal round. Bell was the only Eagle to complete both singles matches in the tournament, as she won #6 singles (6-0, 6-0) against the Hornets in the semifinals.
Maddie Abbott, Lesley - Abbot led the Lynx in the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions throughout the championship. She defeated her singles opponent (6-0, 6-1), and paired with Grace Jovanovich for an 8-3 win in the semifinal round. The duo played a hard-fought 8-6 loss to the eventual champions in the final round.
Grace Jovanovich, Lesley - Jovanovich and #1 doubles partner Maddie Abbott defeated the top MCLA pair, 8-3, in the semifinal round. Alyssa Keegan, MCLA - Along with #2 doubles partner Jessica DuPont, Keegan won the only point for the Trailblazers in the first semifinal match. At #5 singles, she won a first set tie-break 7-6 (7-5) and was up 4-3 when the match was decided.
Erica Hayakawa, NVU-Lyndon - Hayakawa played #2 doubles with Oo Mai Be against the First Team All-Conference Husson duo of Ashley Matlock and Nicci Munroe in the semifinal round. She also played #3 singles for the Hornets.
