Five Eagles Recognized to NAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Team

WATERVILLE, Maine – Five Eagles were recognized by the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) after being named to the 2018 Women's Tennis All-Conference Team. Freshman Ashley Matlock was highlighted as the NAC Rookie of the Year while Head Coach Josh Warren was awarded Coach of the Year. This year marks the most all-conference selections Husson women's tennis has earned in a single season.

Matlock made an immediate impact on the Eagles lineup that posted perfect records in confernce play (4-0) and overall (8-0). The first-year health sciences major teamed with all-conference player Meridith Blessard to win all eight of their doubles matches, including four NAC wins. This impressive mark ties for the most doubles victories in a single season in Husson program history. Matlock is also currently tied for the best overall win percentage in Husson program history, posting a 14-2 combined doubles (8-0, 4-0 NAC) and singles (6-2, 4-0) record. Playing in the second singles position most of the season, she stepped up to play in the first position twice, and was named the NAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 30. Matlock was selected to both the All-Conference singles and doubles teams.

Husson Head Coach Josh Warren led the Eagles to a perfect 8-0 season and the top seed of the NAC championship tournament this weekend. Warren joined Husson athletics in 2015 as the inaugural coach of the women's tennis team and has been steadily building a conference powerhouse, evidenced by four of six players on the All-Conference singles team, two of three All-Conference doubles teams, including four freshmen and the NAC Rookie of the Year. In his fourth year at the helm, Warren led the team to the first No. 1 seed in program history, tying the record for most wins in a season (8-0 overall, 4-0 NAC). This marks the first undefeated regular season for Husson women's tennis, and the first for any varsity sport at Husson in more than 42 years.

Senior Blessard found a spot on both the First Team Singles and First Team Doubles, making an All-Conference appearance in all four years of her time at Husson. With a 5-1 singles record and 7-0 doubles record this season, the senior now holds the most career singles wins in Husson program history with 18 and the most career doubles wins with 23. Blessard was also a two-time NAC Player of the Week this past season.

Rookies Natalie Tilton and Julia O'Leary took on collegiate competition with ease, sweeping match after match this season in singles action with 8-0 records earning themselves spots on the First Team Singles after setting the record for the most singles wins in a season in program history, splitting the tie with fellow classmate Hannah Malinen. Malinen was awarded by being named to the First Team Doubles alongside duel mate Tilton. This rookie duo also topped the best doubles record for Husson women's tennis after going 8-0. By the end of the regular season, Malinen, O'Leary, and Matlock had all taken turns earning NAC Rookie of the Week. Tilton finished off the awards by earning a spot on the NAC Sportsmanship Team.
