Weston, MA - The Husson men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened up their 2013-2014 seasons with a dual meet at Regis College on Saturday. The meet marked the inaugural competition for the newly established Husson men's swimming and diving team.
Highlights of the day for the men's team included Lou DeLima (Hampden, ME) winning the 50 Free with a New England Championship qualifying time of 24.19. Tim Smith (Bangor, ME) also qualified for New England's by winning the 1 Meter Diving event with a score of 2.35. The men's team lost the meet by a score of 105-83.
On the women's side, Casey Pray (Bangor, ME) won a close race in the 50 Free with a time 28.40, just four hundredths of a second ahead of the second place finisher. Jillian Boyle (Westport, MA) earned two second place finishes on the day in the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 500 Yard Freestyle. The women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team comprised of Pray, Boyle, Natalie Calligan (Belfast, ME), and Kayleigh Richardson (Kensington, NH) swam for a decisive win with a time of 1:58.84. The Eagles lost the meet to Regis by a close score of 139-105.
Men's and women's swimming and diving coach Butch Babin was proud of his teams' performances in the first meet, saying, "We had a great meet. Everyone put forth a really good effort, especially for being short-handed on the day."
