CANTON, N.Y. -  A Husson goal by freshman Sydney Morton in the 49th minutes helped lift the Eagles (1-4-0, 1-0 NAC) to a 1-0 victory over SUNY Canton (2-4-0, 0-1 NAC) in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

The first half finished scoreless as the Eagles outshot the Kangaroos, 6-5.

In the beginning of the second half, SUNY Canton defender Jenny Ward looked to clear the ball out of her own box, but Morton beat her to it, taking one touch before volleying the ball past a fast-approaching Allison Wakefield in net. Morton scored her first goal as an Eagle while also helping secure Husson's first win of the season.

Sami Ireland posted two saves to earn her fourth career shutout while Wakefield stopped nine shots in between the posts for the Kangaroos. Ward finished the final 9:22 in net for SUNY Canton.

Husson outshot SUNY Canton, 20-5, including ten shots on frame to the Kangaroos' two shots.

The Eagles will travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England in an non-conference game at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18th.
