POULTNEY, Vt . Leah Hibbad's three goals helped power Husson University past Green Mountain College, 10-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
Hibbard opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of play with an unassisted marker to give the visitor's a very early lead. The striker was fed a ball deep into the hosts' final third and took three touches to settle the ball, avoid a defender and muscle the ball through the arms of the GMC keeper.
The senior forward repeated the feat over four minutes later when she deposited a feed, from Brianna Saulter, into the back of the net. Hibbad then found a streaking Myra Degre down the left side of the field to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 25th minute of play.
Hibbad and Maddie Page would add two more goals before the end of the half to secure a 5-0 halftime lead for the visitors.
Husson (6-5-1, 6-1-1 NAC) continued to push the ball offensively in the second half with five different players scoring in the final stanza. Saulter, Morgan Carver, Joan Overman, Arianna Mckinnon and Degre would finish off the scoring with a goal each to round out the 10-0 win.
Husson outshot GMC (5-8-1, 1-6-1 NAC) by a total of 33-2 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-0.
Sami Ireland and Jordyn Hopkins evenly split the shutout in net for the visitors with Hopkins making the only save of the afternoon. Jessica Casey (St. Albans, Vt.) did well considering she faced so many shots, stopping 17 in the loss.
The Eagles travel to Castleton tomorrow, October 22nd, at 12:00 pm for their next match.
