WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University women's soccer team defeated Thomas College, 2-1, in their first conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-3 (1-0 NAC) while the Terriers fall 0-5 (0-1 NAC).
Husson and Thomas played tough defense but Husson struck with the first goal of the game. In the 14th minute, Morgan Carver received a through ball from Leah Hibbad. Carver's shot deflected off the fingertips of goalkeeper Kayla Gordon and got the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.
The Eagles lead was short lived when the Terriers answered back just two minutes later. Following a corner kick by Taylor Peno, Molly Carroll found the front of the goal and notched the score 1-1.
The Eagles offense had possession for the majority of the first half but were unable to add another goal before the buzzer went off at halftime. In the 58th minute, Morgan Carver was able to get the back of the net after a pass from Megan Conner, recording her second goal of the game and her third on the season. During the second half, the Eagles attempted to improve the already existing 2-1 lead but the Terrier goalkeeper Kayla Gordon was able to make seven saves in the net.
The Husson defense worked hard to deter Thomas from scoring when they took possession in the final thirty seconds of the game. The game ended with Husson collecting a 2-1.
Husson outshot the Terriers 28-3 and collected 14 total corner kicks.
The Eagles return to Boucher field on Tuesday, September 19 in a conference matchup against UMaine- Farmington for a 5:00 p.m. game.
