BANGOR, Maine - With a massive lift in the form of four goals scored by Maddy Olsen, the Husson University (4-3, 0-0) Women's Lacrosse team escaped Boucher Field with a 12-10 victory over Maine Maritime (1-5, 0-1) on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first five minutes of the contest were all Maine Maritime (MMA), as they dominated both time of possession and the scoreboard. Shortly after winning the initial draw control, Sydney Adams netted the game's opening score. At 25:15, she assisted on the goal scored by Madison Savary to give the Mariners an early 2-0 lead.
Less than three minutes following the Mariners second goal the Eagles got one back courtesy of Cali Newton who converted a Free Position Attempt into a good goal. Roughly half a minute later Jordyn Labrie was awarded a Free Position Attempt of her own, and she too converted, drawing the score even at two.
Husson followed the second goal up with a four goal run, with Ashley Cummings, Mary Cushing and Olsen twice finding the back of the net. The Mariners cut into the lead on a Madison Barry Free Position goal, bringing the score to 6-3.
Before the conclusion of the first half, Newton and Olsen deposited shots into the back of the net, taking the Eagles into the ten minute break leading 8-3.
Rose Davies opened the second half scoring 25 seconds after play began, with a Labrie goal extending the Eagles lead to seven. Barry and Cushing traded scores, and with the board reading Husson 11, MMA 4, things began to get interesting.
The Mariners rattled off six unanswered goals, closing the deficit to one with five minutes left in the contest. With the game suddenly up for grabs, it was Olsen, who found the back of the net for the game's final goal. The horn sounded, and the Eagles picked up a 12-10 win.
