BANGOR, ME – Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) scored six goals and had an assist to lead the Husson University Women's lacrosse team to an 18-12 victory over New England College. Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME) had four goals and four assists for the Eagles who improve to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Pilgrims drop to 3-10 on the season with a 2-3 mark in NAC play.
Head Coach Madeline Hoeppner's team led 11-8 at the break and outscored the Pilgrims 7-4 in the second half to pick up the win.
"Not our finest game, but we did what we have to do to get the win."
Husson led the entire game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Abi Staab (Berlin, VT) and Bicknell in the first two minutes.
NEC brought it to within one when Allison Granata fired one past Husson goalie Abby Greenleaf (Newfield, ME).
Husson made the lead to four when Bicknell scored twice and Mariah Carrier (Lewiston, ME) added one. The Pilgrims could only close the gap to within two the rest of the contest.
NEC goalie Mackenzie Meegan saved 24 shots on the afternoon. Granata finished with six goals and two assists and teammate Jacquelyn Lane had three goals and two assists to lead the Pilgrims.
Husson outshot NEC 55-28, scooped up more groundballs 53-27, and won the turnover battle 34-24.
The Eagles next play a conference game at Thomas Wednesday at 5:00.
