Eagles Can’t Complete Comeback, Fall to Huskies 13-11

BANGOR, ME – The Husson University women's lacrosse team battled back from four goals down, but lost to USM 13-11 in a non-conference game at Boucher Field.

Husson Head coach Madeline Hoeppner said despite the loss her team took USM by surprise."We were up at the half against them, but just needed to show more discipline and finish the ball."

Husson trailed 10-6 in the second half when Abi Staab (Berlin, VT) scored on a free position shot to ignite the Eagles run of four goals in under five minutes. Staab would then score her third goal of the game off an assist from Mattie Russell (Hope Valley, RI) to cut the deficit to just two.

Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME) found a cutting Anna Wolterbeek (Wells, ME) to pull to within one, and Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) raced down the field to tie the game at 10.

USM would then answer with back-to-back goals from Nicole LaPlante and Sarah Pelligrinelli to give the Huskies the lead for good.

Wolterbeek would again to pull the Eagles to within one, but an insurance goal from Anh Nguyen would seal the deal for USM.

Fallon led Husson offensively with four goals and three assists. Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) saved 12 shots for the Eagles.

Pelligrinelli finished with five goals and one assist for the Huskies, while LaPlante had four goals. Caley Presby was solid in net for USM with 16 saves.

The loss drops Husson to 4-5 on the season; USM improves to 3-8 with the victory.

Husson's next game is a conference showdown Saturday with New England College at 1:00pm
