BANGOR, ME - Mattie Russell (Hope Valley, RI) and Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME) had five goals apiece, with Russell chipping in with two assists, to lead the Husson to a 19-7 victory over Maine-Farmington. The Eagles improve to 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference, while UMF falls to 0-5 and 0-2 in the NAC.
"We were a well-rounded team today," said Madeline Hoeppner. "If they tried to take one player out, we had several players step up."
The Eagles jumped out to an early 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Russell, Anna Wolterbeek (Wells, ME), and Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT). Ayla Allen responded with two goals for the Beavers to tie things up at three.
UMF's Mara Balboni netted a free position shot to bring her team to within four, but that was as close as the Beavers would get.
Russell completed her five goal performance in the first half, while Fallon notched her first to put the Eagles up 11-6 at the half. The Eagles clinched the victory with the final 8 goals of the game, a run that was sparked by their defense.
"Our defense really responded well after the Colby-Sawyer game. Lauren Coughlan was a huge reason we won today, and Jess Poulin was fantastic in net," said Hoeppner.
Poulin (Albion, ME) made 11 saves for the Eagles to pick up the victory.
Allen scored three goals to lead UMF, while Beavers goalie Patty Smith tallied 11 saves.
The Eagles travel to Castleton Saturday to take on the Spartans at noon.
