Farmington, ME – Husson women's lacrosse fell to North Atlantic Conference opponent the University of Maine at Farmington, Wednesday evening, 10-7.
The Beavers of UMF went into the half leading 5-3, but the fiery Eagle offense fought back to tie it up 6-6, when Haley Huntington (West Gardiner, ME) connected her free position shot for the neutralizer.
Unfortunately the Beavers found some fire of their own scoring 4 unanswered goals, making it 10-6 with a little more than 3 minutes remaining in the game. Huntington scored once again for the final goal of the game, making it 10-7 when Kayleigh Piccirillo's (Walpole, NH) pass found her.
Huntington led the way offensively for the Eagles with 3 goals and 1 assist. Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT) had 2 goals, and 2 caused turnovers, while Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME) and Nicole Connolly (Manchester, NH) grabbed the other goals for Husson.
"Despite the adversity we faced we had a really strong second half, we just ran out of time. We played well controlling ground balls and did well on draw controls," said Head Coach Jen Johnstone, "I'm proud of our team for playing so hard and even though we didn't come out with a win our effort was strong, which was great to see."
Ayla Allen had 3 goals and 2 assists for the Beavers. Maddi Kadnar, Miranda Levesque, and Lyndsey Grundy had 2 goals apiece for UMF.
Husson goalkeeper Chelsea Kondratowicz (Kingston, NY) had 6 saves in the defeat.
With this loss the Eagles fall to 3-6 overall (1-2 NAC) on the season and will host Colby-Sawyer, Saturday at 12:00PM and Castleton State, Sunday at 2:00PM for two crucial NAC match-ups.
