Portland, ME – Husson women's lacrosse started off their 2013 season with a non-conference match against St. Joseph's College of Maine at Deering Memorial Stadium on Monday evening. The Eagles dropped a 17-3 result and start at 0-1, while St. Joseph's stands at 2-0.
Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT), Abi Staab (Berlin, VT), and Charlotte Gerhardy (Denver, CO) accounted for the Husson scoring while Amanda Mora (Stratford, CT) tallied two assists and Emily Child (Mexico, ME) scooped up a game-high five ground balls in the losing effort. Husson senior goalkeeper Chelsea Kondratowicz (Kingston, NY) made 11 saves for the visitors.
Junior attacker Krystal Walsh (Springvale, ME) tallied two goals, two assists, three ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Monks. Nine different Saint Joseph's players found the back of the net as the hosts were led by hat trick efforts from Cassie Diplock (Augusta, ME), Macy Pagurko (Augusta, ME) and Taylor Allison (Pawtucket, RI) on the evening. Saint Joseph's opened play with eight unanswered goals and held the Eagles without an attempt on goal until the 23:19 mark of the opening stanza. Junior keepers Haley Nason (Saco, ME) and Elizabeth Giacchino shared time in goal for the Monks and both netminders made one stop during their respective halves.
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0-1 in the history of the series with Husson University. Husson has a busy opening week, and will host Norwich University at 5:00 PM on Thursday night before traveling to Saint Joseph (Connecticut) on Saturday. The Monks return to action on Sunday against Goucher College in Towson, Maryland at 3:00 PM.
