Waterville, ME - The Husson University women's lacrosse team had a tough test in Wednesday night's contest with #6 ranked Colby College, and the Mules proved why the Division III women's lacrosse community holds them in such high regard, knocking off the visiting Eagles by a score of 20-0. Husson falls to 2-6 on the season, while Colby improves to 7-0 and are the first Mule squad in program history to achieve such a hot start.
For Husson, Steph Eaton (Pittston, ME) had two of Husson's three shots and had four draw controls. Kaleigh Morneau (Twin Mountain, NH) and Kayla Guerrette (Frenchville, Maine) combined for four saves for Husson (2-5).
Tess Petesch (Rockville, MD) had two goals and three assists to lead the Mules, who led 12-0 at halftime. Claire Donegan (Great Falls, VA) added one goal and three assists, while Katie Griffin (Duxbury, MA) had three goals. Alex Mintz (Mountain Lakes, NJ) and Lane McVey (Bronxville, NY) both had two goals and one assist, Sarah Lux (Manlius, NY) dished three assists, and Kate Pistel (Amherst, MA) and Lindsey McKenna (Fairfield, CT) each had two goals. Junior defender Lisa Hoopes (Ipswich, MA) and first-year attacker Maddie Johnson (Greenwich, CT) both scored their first collegiate goals.
Michelle Burt (Woodbridge, CT) made one save in the first half for the Mules and Claire Dickson (Darien, CT) stopped one shot in the second half in combining for the shutout. Kirsten Karis (Southborough, MA) led Colby with four caused turnovers, while Petesch had four draw controls.
The Eagles will kick off North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play this weekend with a 1:00 pm game against the Pilgrims of New England College at Boucher Field on Saturday. The Mules will look to make it eight-straight when they host Connecticut College at noon on Saturday.
