Bangor, ME – The Eagles of Husson University ran away with their opening round game in the 2011 NAC East Division Championship, ousting the University of Maine at Farmington 14-2 from Boucher Field on Husson's campus. The Women's lacrosse team was the third Husson team to open post-season play against the Beavers, and like the baseball and softball team's yesterday, Husson came through with the victory.
The Eagles were led by Megan Clement (Brunswick, ME) scored 5 goals on the day, the second of which marked career point number 100 for the senior Attacker. First year midfielder Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT) netted four for the Eagles, while Kim Gambon (Walpole, MA) and Stephanie Eaton (Pittston, ME) had three points apiece on a goal and two assists each. The Beavers goals came from Molly Carbin (Scarborough, ME) and Emma Morrison (Saco, ME) with Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, ME) assisting on Carbin's score.
In the goalie matchup, first year players Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, ME) for Farmington and Kayleigh Morneau (Twin Mountain, NH) each had 12 saves, but the shot totals favored Husson, putting 26 on net to UMF's 14.
Husson advances to the championship game in the East division tomorrow at 12:00 pm where they'll meet the winner of the other semifinal game between Green Mountain College and Thomas College, being played at 2:30 pm this afternoon.
