Bailey Donovan Named MWBCA Rookie of the Year, First Team All-State and All-Rookie

BANGOR, Maine - Bowdoin College senior Maddie Hasson has been chosen as the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Year, while Bailey Donovan of Husson University has been selected as the Rookie of the Year. Donovan also achieved a spot on the All-Rookie Team and First Team All-State. Adrienne Shibles from Bowdoin College was picked as the Coach of the Year. 

Donovan, a freshman center from Island Falls, Maine, earned an impressive 10 Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week honors, including seven in a row to end the regular season. Donovan held the best field goal percentage in all of Division III until recently, where she currently ranks second with a 65.3 shooting percentage. In conference games, Donovan led the league in points (203), points per game (14.5), and points per 40 minutes (25.6), as well as offensive rebounds (45), field goals (83), and field goal percentage (65.4 percent). Factoring in all contests, she led the NAC in all previously listed categories as well as total rebounds (245) and rebounds per game (10.2). She also earned nine double-doubles, all while averaging only 22.6 minutes per game.  

Hasson, a native of South Portland, Maine, is leading the NESCAC with a 61.8% field goal percentage. She is averaging a career-high in points (16.8) and rebounds (8.1) while recording ten double-doubles. In the NESCAC Tournament she averaged 21.3 points and 13.3 rebounds and ranks seventh all-time at Bowdoin with 1,286 points. Hasson was named a Jostens Trophy Finalist, recognizing the top student-athlete basketball player in Division III.

Shibles was named the MWBCA Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year after leading the Polar Bears to a 22-2 regular season and another NESCAC tournament championship. Shibles has led the Polar Bears to the NCAA Tournament in 11 of her 12 seasons at the helm. For the second straight year, the Bowdoin College women's basketball team has earned Sectional Hosting rights for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
