WATERVILLE, Maine - Husson University (17-8 overall, 14-0 NAC) swept the conference to earn the top seed for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) six-team Women's Basketball Championship Tournament that starts this weekend. The Eagles receive a bye for the quarterfinal round and will host the final four tournament next weekend when they attempt to win the program's fifth-consecutive conference championship. Second-seeded Maine Maritime Academy (20-5, 12-2) also advances directly to the semifinal round.
The tournament begins with quarterfinal games this weekend, featuring #3 UMaine-Farmington (12-13, 9-5), #4 Thomas College (11-14, 9-5), #5 NVU-Lyndon (10-14, 6-8), and #6 NVU-Johnson (4-20, 4-10). Conference tiebreaking procedures were used to separate #3 UMF and #4 Thomas, who ended the season with identical 9-5 NAC records.
The #3 UMF Beavers will host #6 NVU-Johnson, and #4 Thomas College will host #5 NVU-Lyndon this Saturday, February 22nd. Game times will be finalized on Thursday, February 20.
Quarterfinal contest winners will advance to the semifinal round on Friday, February 28th, hosted by #1 Husson University. The host Eagles will face off against the winner of the #4 Thomas/#5 NVU-Lyndon game, and the #2 Mariners will play the winner of the #3 UMF/#6 NVU-Johnson quarterfinal. Tip-off times will be finalized on Thursday, February 20.
The winners of each semifinal matchup will compete for the 2020 NAC Championship on Saturday, February 29th at 2:00 pm. The NAC Champion will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament that begins on March 6th.
