BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team (16-8, 13-0 NAC) jumped out to an early twelve-point lead and never looked back as they defeated the Terriers of Thomas College (10-14, 8-5 NAC), 90-53 at Newman Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, the Eagles recognized their four seniors, Joan Overman, Sami Ireland, Nicole Tapparo and Mickayla Willette for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
IN THE ACTION:
A high-scoring 28-point first quarter set the tone for the afternoon as the Eagles rode out an 11-0 run to cruise into the second quarter with a 28-12 advantage. Seniors Joan Overman and Sami Ireland dominated under the glass combining for 11 points in the offensive effort.
After Terrier Kaylee Ravagli dropped in a pair of threes to open up the second period, Thomas worked their way back within ten points (30-20) of Husson with 7:42 on the clock. The offensive burst from the Terriers was short-lived at the Eagles responded with 13 unanswered points (43-20) over the next five minutes. A quick pass around the key to Overman wrapped up five consecutive points for the senior as she drained a jumper right at the buzzer to head into halftime ahead 45-28.
Husson hit a scoring lull in the first four minutes of the third quarter, watching the Terriers put away five points to chip away at the 48-30 deficit, but the lull was quickly broken by a Tapparo free throw to get back into the action. The green and gold put up another 20-point quarter to advance into the final frame, up 68-36.
Three back-to-back buckets from Bailey Donovan and five points from Vanessa Duarte helped add to the cushion in the fourth as the Eagles wrapped up their weekend with a convincing 90-53 victory over Thomas.
