BANGOR, Maine – An all-around team effort helped propel the Husson University women's basketball squad (5-7, 3-0 NAC) past the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls (2-9, 0-3 NAC) to the tune of 90-51 as the Eagles remain dominant on the home court, 4-0, so far this season.

IN THE ACTION:

After trailing UMPI, 10-4, in the opening six minutes of the competition, Husson closed out the remaining four minutes on a 12-4 run powered by a pair of threes from Vanessa Duarte and Cassie Urso. The Eagles continued their scoring streak into the second frame with a 7-0 round and strong defense, fending off the Owls from the hoop for nearly five minutes. By the end of the first half, Husson held a nine-point advantage, 34-25, led by a nine-point effort from Bailey Donovan.

The Green and Gold brought the heat in the third quarter sending their guards to fill the court as Duarte drained a three to set the tone for the remainder of the game. Four consecutive free throws from Sydney Allen helped extend their separation to 16 points as the defensive minded guards helped hold the Owls to a mere two points in the opening minutes of the half. The Eagles continued on to score 31 points in just the third quarter as Husson finished the second half on 60.7% (17-28) shooting to cruise to a 90-51 conference victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Achieving just her second 20-point game of the season, Donovan added on six boards while shooting a consistent 7-8 from the field.
  • Husson finished the night with an impressive 53.4 (31-58) shooting percentage from field goal range, to UMPI's 25.8% (16-62).
  • Tying for the game-high, Hunter Mercier went 6-10 from behind the arc to add on to her 20 points.
  • Megan Peach hit a new career milestone as she grabbed her 500th rebound wearing Green and Gold.
