BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Eagles (4-7) started off the new decade with a tall task as they took on last season's NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Runner-Ups in the Championship Tournament. Husson fell to the #2 Bowdoin Polar Bears (12-0) by the final score of, 91-50, at Morrell Gymnasium on Tuesday night in non-conference action.
IN THE ACTION:
Bowdoin scored the first eight points before the Eagles got on the board. Sydney Allen swiped the ball and fed Joan Overman in the paint who made a quick spin move around her defender before converting the layup. The Polar Bears continued dominant play through the remainder of the opening half before the Eagles kicked up the heat in the third frame, achieving double digits as the five starters accounted for 13 points. Husson kept up their competitive edge in the final quarter as Vanessa Duarte led the Eagles with ten points to help match the host's 19 points by the end of ten minutes, cutting the deficit to 91-50.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Duarte recorded ten points in just four minutes in the final quarter to hit a consistent 4-for-6 from the field including a pair of threes.
Both teams were closely matched under the glass as Bowdoin barely held the edge on rebounds, 36 to 34.
Bailey Donovan fell just shy of a double-double between the combination of 13 points, on 5-6 shooting from the charity stripe, and nine boards.
Bowdoin's Samantha Roy helped set up the win for the Polar Bears by passing out 11 assists and adding on eight points.
After a four-game non-conference break, the Eagles will host the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls for a two-game series to continue North Atlantic Conference action. The first game of the NAC Battle of the Birds will take place on Friday, January 10th at 5:30 p.m.
