BOSTON, Mass - A strong second-half performance by senior center Sami Ireland (23) and freshman center Bailey Donovan (20) combined to score 43 points to lead the Husson University women's basketball team to an 88-70 victory over Saint Joseph's College (N.Y.) this afternoon in the consolation game of the 36th Annual Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament on Andy Yosinoff Court in Boston, Mass.
The Bears held the upper hand over the Eagles, 23-21, following a high scoring first quarter despite the Eagles leading for a good part of the opening ten minutes. The Bears took their first lead of the game, midway through the first, as Kelly O'Donnell made a three-pointer to make it 12-10. The Eagles responded as Sydney Allen buried a three, but with 18 seconds left in the period, Deserae Sequeira converted on a layup to give the Bears a bucket advantage heading into the second quarter.
Heading into halftime, the Bears continued to hold a slight advantage, 44-41, after carrying their momentum from the opening frame into the second quarter.
After some regrouping, the Eagles emerged from the locker room with a new mentality as they overpowered the Bears, 22-16, in the third quarter. O'Donnell hit a three to give the Bears a three-point lead with 6:54 on the clock, but Donovan sparked a 15-5 third quarter run with eight points to help erase a 46-43 deficit and turn it into a 58-51 lead with 3:22 to go in the period. The Bears ended the quarter on a 9-5 run thanks to a three-pointer as time expired by Deserae Sequeira to make it 63-60 Eagles after 30 minutes.
Husson scored 15 of the first 19 points of the fourth quarter, behind five points from Ireland, to give the Eagles a 78-64 advantage and effectively put the game out of reach with 3:17 showing on the fourth quarter clock.Ireland helped close out the period nearly outscoring the team of Saint Joseph's by herself in the quarter as she drained nine points on 4-5 shooting. The Eagles snagged six steals and put up two blocks to help cruise to a third place finish in the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Classic.

Husson shot 49.3% (35-71) from the floor, including 52.9% (18-34) in the second half and owned a 49-38 margin on the glass.
Donovan posted her second double-double (23 pts, 11 boards) on the weekend to begin her collegiate career with a new program record as she became the first rookie center to open up with back-to-back doubles-double games. She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, and shooting 9-12 from the floor to go with three blocks.
Ireland finished just one point shy of her career best, while shooting 11-16 from the field to go with eight boards, three steals and a trio of blocks.
Junior guard Emma Alley netted 14 points and handed out five assists for the Eagles, while sophomore guard Allen led all playmakers with seven assists and five steals to go with eight points and five rebounds.
Junior guard Kelly O'Donnell led all scorers with 29 points for Saint Joseph's. She added six rebounds, four steals, two blocks and a pair of assists.
Sophomore guard Lauren Duggan chipped in with 10 points in six minutes off the bench for the Bears, while Sequeira handed out six assists, scored seven points, grabbed three boards and came up with three steals.
The Eagles return from Massachusetts and will begin a three-game Maine road trip with the first stop in Lewiston on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m. as they face Bates College at Alumni Gymnasium.
