CASTINE, Maine – Falling behind in the second quarter, the Husson women's basketball squad (17-8, 13-1 NAC) struggled to climb back on top as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners (18-6, 12-2 NAC) ended the Eagles unbeaten North Atlantic Conference (NAC) record in the final game of the regular season, 58-48.
A tightly contested first quarter saw Maine Maritime start the night on a 6-0 run. A pair of buckets from Joan Overman and a solid defensive effort from the Eagles helped level the playing field at sixes halfway through the quarter. Husson extended their lead to 16-10 advancing into the second quarter.
The Eagles' scoring dried up in the second quarter, scoring only seven points to the Mariner's 22. Maine Maritime shot 11-17 from the free throw line in just the one quarter, sending them into halftime with a 32-23 edge.
The third quarter was a back and forth contest with Maine Maritime still coming out on top. Despite Husson's attempts to battle back in the fourth outscoring the Mariners, their efforts fell short as they took the 58-48 loss.
Kenzie Worcester led all-scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-7 from the charity stripe, and pulling down five rebounds.
Megan Peach scooped up yet another double-double off of 14 points and 11 boards, along with five blocks.
Joan Overman added on six points.
Maine Maritime Leaders:
Melinda Ogden led the Mariners on the scoreboard with 16 points, draining four 3-pointers.
Lauren Plissey grabbed a double-double between 13 boards and 11 points.
Alayne Felix chipped in eight points and a pair of blocks.
