Husson Softball Welcomes Mikayla Tripp as the First Commitment to the 2020 Program

BANGOR, Maine – Graduating top of her class, Husson Athletics welcomes Bucksport High School's 2019 valedictorian, Mikayla Tripp, as the first commitment to the 2020 Husson softball squad.

She finishes her high school career as a four-sport student-athlete, competing on the varsity softball team all four years along with three years of cheering, then switched up her senior year routine trying something new by playing on the women's soccer team in the fall and indoor track & field in the winter.

Her high school softball team made it to the State Championships in 2016, finishing as the State Runner-Up. The Bucks went all the way the next year, taking the 2017 State Champion Title, and then closed out the 2018 season as the Northern Maine Runner-Up. In her final year as a Buck, she tested out her arm in the circle for the first time, striking out 149 batters in 71.0 innings while batting a .651 average. Her successes didn't stop there, Tripp was named to the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) First Team as an outfielder following the completion of her final season. She was also known to see time at second base and catcher as a utility player for the Bucks.

A few other accolades achieved by Tripp at Bucksport High School include the MPA Principal's Award and PVC Scholar Athlete Award.

Outside of school, she competed on several travel teams since age 11, beginning on a 12U and 14U Sluggers team in Brewer, Maine. She began traveling a little more for the sport, playing on the 16U Maine Thunder squad out of Portland, Maine. More recently, Tripp played under coach Aaron Oakes in Hermon, Maine for the 18U Maine Frost. Her primary positions on her travel teams typically include rotating between pitching and catching while occasionally seeing a few innings in the outfield and middle infield, as well.

Tripp has plans to study Nursing at Husson University in the Fall of 2019.
