Softball Swept by Bowdoin in Sunday Double Dip, 1-9, 0-2

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University (12-8) softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to the Bowdoin College (19-10) Polar Bears, 9-1 (5 inn.), 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex.

GAME ONE – Bowdoin 9, Husson 1 in Five Innings


The game remained a scoreless tie until two outs in the top of third when Bowdoin racked the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI single up the middle by Caroline Rice. The Polar Bears continued their two out magic and added on four more runs before the final out of inning thanks to RBI singles by Allison Ritz and Samantha Valdivia, and a two RBI double by Maddie Rouhana.

Bowdoin pushed across two more runs in fourth before Husson scored their lone run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth.  Jen Jones led off the inning by smashing a single down the left field line and scored on the next Eagle plate appearance when Morgan Coleman ripped a double to left centerfield.

The Polar Bears tacked on two insurance runs in fifth after Natasha Finger went bridge to left field.


Alyssa Prest took the loss for the Eagles after allowing five unearned runs off seven hits with two punch outs in three innings of work. Arika Brochu pitched the final two innings of the game. The senior pitcher allowed four runs and four hits, while striking out one Polar Bear.

Samantha Roy picked up her seventh win of the season by tossing a complete game seven hitter. Roy allowed one earned run with one walk and four strikeouts.


  • Whitney Bess recorded her fourth multi-hit game of the season by going 2-for-3 in game one.
  • Olivia Smith finished the game with a 1-for-3 day with a double.
  • Jones went 1-for-2 and scored the Eagles lone run of the game.
  • Coleman was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.


  • Rice went 2-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBI.
  • Rouhana was 2-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBI.
  • Fingar finished the game with a 2-for-3 day with a run, a homerun and two RBI.

GAME TWO – Bowdoin 2, Husson 0


The Polar Bears broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning after Valdivia reached first on an Eagle fielding error sending Rouhana home with the game's first run. Valdivia crossed the plate one batter later when Katelyn Cox reached first on the Eagles' second fielding error of the inning.

The game remained scoreless for the final three innings of game thanks to excellent pitching by Jones and Ruby Siltanen.


Jones and Siltanen both tossed complete games in game two. Jones allowed two unearned runs off seven hits with two walks, while recording her program high ninth double digit strikeout performance by punching out 12 Polar Bears. Siltanen yielded just three hits in the victory with five strikeouts.


  • Bri Brochu finished game two with a 1-for-3 day.
  • Smith was 1-for-3 in game two.
  • Kylie Cunningham went 1-for-2 on the day with a double.


  • Karlye Pallotta was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
  • Rice went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.
  • Rouhana finished with a 2-for-4 day with a double and a run scored.


The Eagles return to diamond on Wednesday when they travel to Plymouth, N.H. for a non-conference doubleheader with the Panthers of Plymouth State University. Game one's first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
