Winter Haven, FL - On the second day of the Rebel Spring Games, Husson softball faced Wheaton and Geneva. The Eagles dropped a 12-5 result to Wheaton and bounced back for a 5-3 win over Geneva later that day.
Game 1: Wheaton (MA) 12 - Husson 5
Wheaton went up 7-0 across the first three innings before Husson got on the scoreboard with four runs in the fourth. Allie Hill (Calais, ME), Mallory Conary (Warren, ME), Jess Poulin (Albion, ME), and Casey Lopes (New Bedford, MA) scored for the Eagles.
Husson added one more run in the fifth inning, Lyndsay Merrill (Bethel, ME) off a Lopes double, to bring the Eagles within two. However, Wheaton would score one in the fifth and three in the sixth inning to close it out 12-5.
Amanda Ryan (Brewer, ME) faced 35 batters across six innings in the loss.
Game 2: Husson 5 - Geneva 3
Kayla Merrill (Bethel, ME) pitched the win for the Eagles, facing 29 batters across seven innings.
Husson started with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as Hill and L. Merrill both recorded runs. K. Merrill increased the Eagles' lead to three in the bottom of the second.
Geneva tied the game with one run in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth. Chelsea Brennan (Woonsocket, RI) picked up an RBI in the bottom of the sixth to send L. Merrill home, and Sarah Babin (Brewer, ME) added an insurance run off a Sami Schultz (Hermon, ME) hit.
The Eagles stand at 2-2 on the season and will face Waynesburg and Kean on Wednesday.
