Bangor, ME – Husson softball defeated Castleton State College 2-0, Friday afternoon in game 4 of the North Atlantic Conference Softball Championship at O'Keefe Softball Complex.
Amanda Ryan (Brewer, ME) pitched a strong 7 shutout innings for the Eagles, only allowing 5 hits, while striking out 9.
Taylor Lively (Greenfield, MA), who had a no-hitter in game 2 earlier in the day, was also strong on the mound for the Spartans, striking out 6.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the 4th when Husson struck first. Aimee Mortensen (Biddeford, ME) reached on a single up the middle. Victoria Overlock (Belfast, ME) doubled to right center, advancing Mortensen who then scored the first run on a fielding error by the Spartans.
Two innings later Mortensen and Overlock would pair up once again to score the second Husson run. Mortensen singled through the left side and then stole second. Overlock singled to left center field, batting in Mortensen.
Castleton made a valiant last stitch effort in the bottom of the 7th when they had two on base. Brittany Brayman (Fort Anne, NY) singled up the middle, Stephanie Sylvester (Swanton, VT) singled through the left side places runners at 1st and 2nd. However Ryan pitched herself out of the inning throwing some of her best pitches of the afternoon.
The Eagles advance to the Championship Final tomorrow at 2PM and will face the winner of Game 5, between the Spartans and Lyndon State Hornets, which will be played at 12:00 PM. The Hornets and Spartans played previously in game 2, Castleton coming out victorious 6-0.
