Bangor, ME – Husson softball shut out the University of Maine at Farmington in 7 innings on Friday morning at O'Keefe Softball Complex.
Courtney Hill (Calais, ME) and Breanna Martin (Oxford, ME) both had 2 RBIs on the game to lead the Eagles to victory in game 1 past the Beavers in the NAC Softball Tournament. The Eagles scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to go up 3-0. Haley Spiers (Rochester, NH) flied out to shortstop to bat in Deb Colpitts (Levant, ME). Martin grabbed her 2 RBIs when she singled scoring Heidi Shaw (Manchester, ME) and Allie Hill (Calais, ME).
Becca McCarty (Skowhegan, ME) pitched a strong 6 innings for the Eagles only giving up 1 hit, including striking out the side in the bottom of the top of the 4th.
In the bottom of the 4th C. Hill grabbed her first RBI of the day when she scored Shaw. The Eagles successfully pulled off a double steal when Aimee Mortensen (Biddeford, ME) stole second base, and C. Hill stole home to put the Eagles up 5-0.
Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME) reached first on a throwing error by third base and advanced to second. Sargent later stole third before C. Hill singled to the pitcher scoring Sargent to put the Eagles up 6-0 for good.
Kayla Merrill (Bethel, ME) came to the mound for the Eagles in the seventh and final inning, allowing two hits while registering a strike out.
Emily Soule got the start for Farmington on the mound, allowing seven hits with five runs three of which were earned in four innings. Emma Vaillancourt came to the mound for the final two innings.
The Beavers registered three hits in the game. Kaitlyn Bartlett, Lily Barry, and Meryl Bond all registered singles.
Farmington will play the losing team of Castleton vs. Lyndon State at 2:00 PM. Husson will play the winning team of Castleton vs. Lyndon State at 4:00 PM.
