Eagles Win Two at Colby, Continue 16 Game Unbeaten Streak

Waterville, ME - Becca McCarty (Skowhegan, ME) threw a three-hit shutout in the first game and teammate Amanda Ryan (Brewer, ME) matched her with a three-hit shutout in the nightcap as Husson University took 3-0 and 5-0 victories over Colby College in softball Tuesday at Crafts Field.

Husson, who is 15-0-1 in the last 16 games, moves to 19-8-1 overall (10-0 NAC), while the Mules fall to 8-11.

Game 1: Husson 3, Colby 0

McCarty struck out seven and walked none in the opener, while Lauren Becker (Falls Church, VA) was solid in a complete game for Colby with three strikeouts and one walk.

Husson took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when Victoria Overlock (Belfast, ME) was hit by a pitch to start the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice by McCarty, and scored on a double by Kelsey Livermore (Kennebunk, ME), who went to third on an outfielder error. Heidi Shaw (Manchester, ME) had an RBI groundout to score Livermore.

The Eagles scored the final run in the sixth inning after a lead-off single by Aimme Mortensen (Biddeford, ME). Sami Schultz (Hermon, ME) doubled to get Mortensen to third and McCarty helped her own cause with an RBI single.

Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME) had two hits for Husson in the opener, while Carolyn Bennett (Scarborough, ME) went 1-for-2 for Colby.

Game 2: Husson 5, Colby 0

Ryan was helped out by three Colby errors that allowed just two of the five runs to be earned. Sargent scored in the third inning on an outfielder error and Schultz added an RBI single for a 2-0 margin.

Kayla Merrill (Bethel, ME) reached by error to start the fifth inning and came around to score on another double by Schultz.

Husson added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Mortensen led off with a walk and scored on a two-out, two-run homer by Lyndsey Merrill (Bethel, Maine).

Schultz had two hits and two RBI, while Haley Spiers (Rochester, N.H.) had two hits for the Eagles.

Emily Schatz (Lyman, Maine) went 1-for-2, with a double and an intentional walk for the Mules.

Husson will next play two home contests tomorrow (April 17) against Maine Maritime Academy, starting at 2:00 PM.
