The Husson Eagles earned an extra inning 6-5 victory over the Terriers of Thomas College. The game which began yesterday was suspended following the eighth inning due to darkness. In the bottom of the ninth inning, a day later, Husson's Kody Lyon scored following an error to claim the 6-5 win.
The Husson Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning off RBI singles by Bri Webster and Dottie Cameron, and a wild pitch. Thomas broke out in the fifth inning with four runs in an error riddled inning for the Eagles to take a 4-3 lead. Husson managed to score in the bottom of the fifth inning off another error to bring the score to four apiece. The Eagles and Terriers played through scoreless sixth and seventh innings and entered the eighth inning with the score remaining 4-4.
In the top of the eighth inning, Thomas' Kelsey Crowe singled to left field to advance Samantha Moore (who began the inning placed on second due to international tiebreaker rules) to third base. A sacrifice bunt plated Moore for the go-ahead run. Husson's Kody Lyon notched a key strikeout to end the inning.
The Eagles responded in the bottom of the ninth inning off a fielder's choice that advanced Dottie Cameron to third base. Cameron advanced to third and scored on a fielding error by Thomas to knot the game at 5-5. Crowe fired a strikeout to send the game into the ninth inning at which point the game was suspended.
The game resumed the following day in the top of the ninth inning. With Husson's Kody Lyon on the mound and Thomas' Alexandra Kriegel was placed on second base to start the inning. Following a popup to third by Kristen Masessa, Lyon struck out the next two Thomas batters to end the top of the inning.
Lyon was placed on second to begin the bottom of the inning. Sargent sacrifice bunted to advance Lyon to third base. Farmington's Crowe intentionally walked Sara Risser and Kara Poirier to load the bases. Crowe then struck out Bri Webster and Dottie Cameron reached base on a fielder's choice. Following a throwing error, Kody Lyon scooted home to claim the 6-5 Husson win.
Lona Sargent was 3-4 with two runs scored for Husson while Crowe contributed two RBI's for Thomas and hit 3-4.
On the mound, Crowe shouldered the loss with three innings of work that included five strikeouts and two runs allowed on two hits. Husson's Lyon was credited with the win for her 1.2 innings of work that included four strikeouts and did not allow a hit.
The Eagles remain undefeated in the NAC Championship and sit atop the winners bracket. Husson awaits the winner of a contest between Thomas and Maine Farmington.
