Husson University's Kody Lyon threw a no-hitter against Johnson State to lead the Eagles in a sweep of the Badgers. Husson won 13-0 and 17-0, en-route to their thirty-sixthth consecutive win in the North Atlantic Conference. The Eagles hit .596 in today's double-header. With the win, the Eagles improve to 12-12 (6-0 NAC) while Johnson State falls to 1-15 (0-6 NAC).
Game two featured the dominant pitching of Kody Lyon who no-hit the Badgers, throwing five innings and striking out 4. The Eagles exploded offensively for 17 runs, fueled in large part by an 8 run second inning. Lona Sargent went 4-3, scoring three runs and hitting two doubles. Courtney Hill's 2-3 performance contributed three runs.
Johnson state's Caitlyn Mackey shouldered the loss.
The Eagles jumped out to a three run lead in the bottom of the first inning, powered by a Kelly Naegelin RBI single to third, an RBI single up the middle by Rebecca McCarty, and an RBI by Kara Poirier.
Johnson State answered in the fourth inning with a leadoff double to center field by Morgan Rogerson. Rogerson then advanced on a Tanya Randall single to left field and eventually stole home for the Badgers' only run of the inning.
Husson's slap-hitter Courtney Hill went 3-3, and scored two runs in game one while Amanda Gifford contributed four RBI's and two runs. Johnson State's Morgan Rogerson went 1-2 with one RBI on the day.
Amanda Ryan was credited with the Husson win, throwing five innings and striking out 7 while allowing one run and one walk. Meagan Russ received the loss, pitching three innings and allowing 14 hits and 11 runs.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday, April 17 when the host Lyndon State College for a 12:00 PM double-header. Johnson State travels to Maine Maritime for a 10:00 double-header on Sunday, April 17.
