WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Cayd Wortman became the first Eagle in program history to finish as the runner-up in an event at the New England Division III Championship, representing Husson outdoor track & field. Competing in the decathlon for just the second time in his career after his qualifying performance earlier in the season, Wortman set six personal records in ten events to help Husson bring home a 22nd spot with 10 points out of over 40 men's outdoor track & field teams competing at Williams College.
Wortman broke 6,000 points with a cumulative 6,016 by the end of the two-days of competition. At the end of day one, he was leading ten other participants in the decathlon before taking a second-place overall finish which leaves him ranked 29th in the country. The sophomore earned three first place wins on the track in the 100-meter dash (11.50 seconds), 400-meter dash (51.56 seconds), and the 110-meter hurdles (15.51 seconds), with personal bests in all three events. Wortman also had personal record performances in shot put (10.53 meters), the 1500-meter run (4:41.98), and javelin (45.72 meters).
The only other Eagle to score for the Husson men, was Dominic Laptiste in the long jump, soaring 6.67 meters to a seventh-place jump out of 27 competitors.
For the women, Leah Desjardins raced to an impressive school record shattering time of 12.66 seconds in the 100-meter dash for 16th while Maddie Wing took 18th in javelin.
