MIAMI, Fla. – The Eagles invaded the home of the Hurricanes on Friday and Saturday as they finished off their spring break road trip in Florida competing against several Division I opponents in a non-scoring meet hosted by the University of Miami. Three student-athletes on the men's outdoor track & field squad placed in the top ten at the Hurricane Invitational.
Jeff Ward posted the top performance of the day with the best ranking, capturing fifth out of 20 competitors in javelin with a new personal record throw of 49.91 meters.
Cayd Wortman and Eric Hathaway were the only two other Eagles to place in the top ten in events. Wortman snagged seventh in the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters while Hathaway took ninth in the hammer throw, heaving it 45.52 meters. His teammate, John Chen was close behind in the standings with a 12th place throw of 42.19 meters, breaking his previous set record at the Shark Invitational earlier in the week by nearly four meters. Joe Minard also broke a personal best in a throwing event after an 11.82-meter heave in the shot put to place 16th out of 26 total throwers.
The lone Eagle to finish in the top-20 on the track in Miami was Zach Hartman, crushing the previous school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.60 for 11th out of 36 competitors.
The Eagles made the long trek back home where they will begin preparation for the Regis Spring Classic in three weeks on Friday, April 5th at Regis College.
