DAVIE, Fla. – Traveling to warmer weather over spring break, the Husson men's outdoor track & field team competed at the Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University. Senior Eric Hathaway started off his spring season in the field in the best possible way, qualifying for the Division III New England Championship in the hammer throw in the first meet while taking a win in the event for 10 points to help Husson bring home fifth place out of 15 teams with a total of 65 points. Dominick Lizotte and Cayd Wortman will be joining Hathaway at the DIII New England Championship after their outstanding accomplishments in the pole vault and 110-meter hurdles.
Hathaway tossed the hammer 48.20 meters for the win while John Chen, Joe Minard, and Jacob Braz all contributed to a total of 21 points in the event. Chen (38.30m), Minard (36.29m), and Braz (23.21m) took fourth, fifth, and seventh while Chen and Minard put up the best throws in their career. Chen and Hathaway scored in two throwing events as Chen snagged fifth (35.52m) and Hathaway took sixth (35.20m) in discus.
Also putting up an impressive performance in the field, Lizotte pushed off in the pole vault with enough momentum to clear 4.26 meters.
On the track, Wortman swiped sixth out of 11 competitors in the 110-meter hurdles, soaring over the hurdles and across the finish line in 15.61 seconds for a new school record. Taking on a longer distance on the rubber, Zach Hartman broke the previous program record in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:26.76.
Eight different Eagles tackled the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. Hartman, Carter Patterson Wortman, and Ricky Smith each ran a 400-meter leg fast enough for a third-place finish in 3:45.78 and the fourth best time in school history. Race Bouchard, Lizotte, Jeff Ward, and Jake Dobos each completed a quick 100-meter sprint to finish the relay with a time of 44.72 seconds for fourth place and the second-best mark in program records.
The men return to the track on Friday, March 15th to compete at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami in Florida.
