Men's Outdoor T&F Show Steller Performances at Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The Eagles displayed a standout performance down at Regis College on Friday night at the Regis "Under the Lights" Invitational.  It was a non-scoring meet; however, this was the first meet of the 2017 season which Husson sent full squads for both men and women to compete. The men's outdoor track team placed in the top six in 13 different events.

Eric Hathaway led the way for the Eagles in the field events, picking up three first place wins as a freshman. For shot put Hathaway tossed 13.41 meters, he sent the discus soaring 35.7 meters, and finished out with the hammer throw, setting a new school record with his 38.88 meter throw.

Husson nearly swept the top six spots over in javelin with Justin Martin claiming second with a new school record in his very first collegiate track meet (49.75m), Josh Martin fourth (44.37m), Owen Freeman fifth (43.12m), and Brett Martin sixth (40.99m).

Josh Wheeler and Will Goforth helped out the Eagles in the jumping events as both cleared 1.67 meters in high jump taking fifth and sixth then Wheeler picked up second in triple jump (12.00m) and Goforth took fifth in long jump (5.3m). Just behind Wheeler in triple jump, Dominic Locke jumped to third place (11.53m). Also placing in long jump were; Brett Martin third (5.53m) and Jake Dobos fourth (5.33m).

Francesco Wright was unstoppable in pole vault, clearing 3.8 meters for first place. Wheeler followed with 3.2 meters for third and 2.75 meters for Patrik Orcutt finishing fourth.

In the running events three Husson athletes captured fifth place; Dobos in the 100-meter dash (11.84), Nick Young in the 800-meter (2:06:28) setting a school record, and Chris Pomerleau in the 5K (17:44:90).

Finishing out the day with relays, the Eagles sent two teams to the track for the 4x100-meter relay. The B team took second with Will Richard, Andrew Wilbekin, Young, and Wright (46.51) and the A team crossed in fourth with Edward Miner, Dobos, Goforth, and Locke (46.94). Finally, in the 4x400 Husson finished in third place with runners, Miner, Richard, Wright, and Young (3:46:13).

The Husson men will be competing at Bowdoin College next weekend, Saturday April 15th with the meet beginning at 11am.
