WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University men's indoor track and field team placed third in the Small School Open hosted by Thomas College on Saturday, posting 22 points on the day.
First-year Austin O'Neal led the squad by contributing nine points to the team's total, capturing third place in the 200-meter run (26.55) before placing fourth in the 400-meter run (56.45). Competing on the 4x400 relay team alongside teammates Ricky Smith, Christian Brookhouse and Voldivain Mboma, the quartet captured second place honors after crossing the finish line in 3:56.91.
Smith took home a third place finish in the 400-meter race, crossing the line 30 seconds before fellow Eagle O'Neal, while Brookhouse finished the race in sixth place, posting a time of 59.61 seconds.
Competing in the 800-meter race, Mboma led all Eagles with a fifth place finish with a time of 2:12.9. Finishing in sixth place, McKinnon posted a 2:22.57 time, before Joseph Gay (2:36.8) and Ben Francis (2:48.15) finished in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
Eagles Mboma and Francis took home medalist honors in the mile event, with Mboma crossing the finish line in 4:57.33 capturing a third place finish, before McKinnon posted a 5:20.00 time, capturing fifth place. Gay placed ninth in the event, posting a 5:56.26 time, while Francis crossed in 6:09.37 for a tenth place finish.
Brookhouse claimed runner-up honors in the triple jump, clearing 11.25m, before placing sixth in the long jump with a 5.28m finish. Tyler Fenderson competed in the weight throw, hitting 8.06m to place seventh in the field. Fenderson also took part in the shot put event, clearing 7.74m to claim a tenth place finish.
The green and gold will make the trek to Gorham, Maine on Saturday, January 25th to compete in the second Southern Maine Invitational.
