WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior John Chen was the big scorer of the day for the Eagles, bringing home eight points for Husson in the weight throw to help the men's indoor track & field squad take ninth place at the Reggie Poyau Invitational on Saturday afternoon hosted by Brandeis University.
Chen launched the weight 13.62 meters to take home the best finish of the day as he grabbed silver. The only other Eagle to score a point was first-year Josh Hart who cleared 3.70 meters in pole vault to bring in sixth.
Two more men wearing Green and Gold gathered top-ten marks in the field. Fellow rookies, Adelino Daveiga sent the shot put flying 12.74 meters for eighth and Jack Jowett reached 1.75 meters in the high jump to tie for tenth.
Four men stood out running legs in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing just 25 seconds shy of scoring. Zach Hartman, Ricky Smith, Voldivain Mboma, and Sam Roy all gave it their all sprinting down the track for a team time of 3:47.55 (9th). Hartman and Race Bouchard also raced their heart out individually, as Bouchard finished just hundredths of a second behind the sixth-place runner in the 200-meter dash to cross the finish line at 23.69 seconds. Taking on a longer distance, Hartman also took seventh with his time of 1:28.58 to shave off over three seconds from the previous Husson program record.
The Eagles will be back on the track on Friday, January 17th when they travel to Lewiston, Maine for the Bates Invitational.
