BOSTON - The first day of the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship is complete and the Husson University men sit in 3rd place through the six events with 32 points.
Regis College leads the pack with 41 points while Norwich University (36), Husson, Elms (26) and Saint Joseph's College of Maine round out the top five.
- The quartet of Steven Johnston, Dan Egan, Joe Vail and Tom Cote combined to win the 200 Free Relay with a new school record time of 1:32.51, an effort worth 18 points. They become the first relay team in men's or women's program history to win a relay event at a GNAC Championship meet and to earn All-GNAC honors.
- Adam Colter finished seventh in the 1000 Free (12:34.22), an effort worth two points.
- Johnston, Vail, Cote and Egan capped off day one of the 2019 GNAC Championship by finishing third in the 200 Medley Relay with a new school record time of 1:46.48, an effort worth 12 points.
- Johnston also led off both relays with new school records in the 50 Back with a 25.55 and the 50 Free with a 21.72.
Action resumes tomorrow morning at the Holmes Sports Center with the prelims starting at 10:30 a.m.
