Men's Soccer defeats UMPI on Senior Night, 6-1

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team (5-12, 4-3 NAC) celebrated senior Kyle Townsend's final regular season home game in his collegiate career with a 6-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle (6-8,1-6 NAC) on a cold Tuesday evening at John P. Boucher Field.

IN THE ACTION:

Husson notched their first goal of the match just thirteen minutes in when Gerard Arias Huetra sniped the ball into the top right corner of the net to put the Eagles up 1-0. With 18 minutes left in the first half, Kiko Sanchez Rico scored the second goal of the match for Husson after Joao Passoni's shot hit the crossbar and rebounded right back to Sanchez Rico.

The Eagles continued to pull away in the second half as Jordi Cabau Limens notched the third goal of the game for Husson, nine mintues into the half. Cabau Limens rolled the ball slowly past every UMPI defender including the goalie for his third goal of the season. Twenty minutes later Will Paradis scored on a wide open net, after Jahmal Williams hit a timely cross through several UMPI defenders to Paradis to push the Eagle advantage to four.

UMPI finally found the back of the net two minutes later after the ball took several bounces off of multiple Owls and Eagles, hit the crossbar and finally found the foot of Jonah Hudson, who fired the ball pass Townsend for the lone goal and shot of the game for the Owls. Two goals by Cai Pritchard in a span of three minutes gave Husson a lopsided 6-1 victory over UMPI.

Coach's quote: "Tonight was a great performance to round off a tough regular season schedule. The lads put in a solid shift tonight and worked well together. It was a dominant display and I'm glad we found the back of the net on several occasions. It was a good way to prepare ourselves for a battle on Sunday in the quarterfinals and I'm hoping the lads can replicate this performance."

IN BETWEEN THE POSTS:

Nathan Barnett for UMPI made ten saves on the night while Towsend surrendered only one goal in 84:43 minutes played before exiting the game to a standing ovation. Nikoloz Bulashvili played the final five minutes and 17 seconds of the game.
