BANGOR, Maine -The No. 3 seeded Husson University men's soccer team (8-8-3, 5-1-1 NAC) will advance to the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals after beating the No. 6 seeded University of Maine at Farmington, 2-1, in the NAC Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.

The Beavers (5-13, 2-5 NAC) opened up scoring in the 7th minute of the game off a direct kick by Andrew Longhurst which curled into the box, through all the players and snuck into the back of the net. The Eagles controlled the field for the remainder of the half firing three shots on frame, but Matthew Wilson stepped in front thwarting Husson's attempt to tie the score.

Husson was finally able to breakdown the Beavers' defense in the 62nd minute as Rod Ghanayem sprinted down the field barely entering into the goal box before blasting a shot home into the bottom corner to level the match at ones.

With only 16 minutes remaining in regulation, Paxton Oversmith chipped a lofty ball in to Alvaro Valls who took one touch to control the ball before firing a low volley into the bottom corner of the net for the game winner.

Commenting on the 2-1 victory, Head Coach Gavin Penny remarked, "Today was a perfect illustration of our season. We continue to play nice football and get ourselves into great areas of the park, but struggle with the end product. The goals we have scored toady were well taken. I can't speak highly enough about our work rate and effort, but I have to give a special mention to Rod. He was absolutely fantastic today and his leadership was instrumental in clawing us back into the game. We have a week to get ready for another showdown with Thomas. We're happy to still be in the mix."

Kyle Townsend recorded a single save in the victory for the Eagles while his counterpart Wilson turned away eight shots.

Husson outshot UMaine-Farmington, 23-6, while also commanding the field of play on the attack with 13 corner kicks to the Beavers' one.

With the loss, the UMaine-Farmington Beavers conclude their 2018 season while #3 Husson will take on #2 Thomas College in the NAC Semifinals with a full week to prepare. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 3rd at Maine Maritime hosting the Semifinals and Final round of the 2018 NAC Championship Tournament.
