BANGOR, Maine - DJ Bussey recorded the first double-double of his career as the Husson men's basketball team (11-14, 8-6 NAC) soared to a 75-49 victory over the Maine Maritime Mariners (4-21, 2-12 NAC) on Tuesday night in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season finale. Prior to the contest, the Eagles honored senior captain Bruce St. Peter for his contributions to the program over the last four years.
IN THE ACTION:
The Eagles took a commanding 12-0 lead in the opening minutes of the half, behind a three-point shot from Justice Kendall, before the Mariners' Riley Jorgenson put the visitors on the board with a three-pointer. Bussey extended the home team's lead to 16 as he converted a pass from Brett Cunningham and swished a deep shot from downtown. With 2:35 remaining in the half, Cunningham sank back-to-back three-pointers of his own as the Eagles took a 40-16 advantage into the locker room.
St. Peter continued the Eagles' offensive dominance in the second half with a jumper before Cunningham added a three-point basket to push the green and gold ahead, 47-21 with 15:48 to go in the game. The Eagles took their largest lead of the night, 58-28, as J Thomas converted a defensive rebound into a strong drive to the net. The senior captain added three points from the charity stripe as Husson cruised to a 75-49 victory over Maine Maritime.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
St. Peter scored 13 points in the victory, adding eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Cunningham pitched in 13 points, including 3-4 from behind the arc, while dishing out three assists and posting five rebounds.
Nicholas DePatsy scored a team high ten points for the visitors, dishing out two assists and grabbing two rebounds.
Bussey brought down a career-high 11 boards while contributing 12 points and three assists on the night.
The Eagles outshot the Mariners from the three-point line, finishing the night 33.3% compared to 26.9%, while shooting 44.4% from the floor compared to the Mariners' 32.1%.
The Husson men's basketball team will await the North Atlantic Conference's official announcement of the championship tournament seedings.
