STANDISH, Maine - The Husson University men's basketball team (2-3) traveled to the Harold Alfond Center to compete in the 3rd Annual Alumni Cup against Saint Joseph's College (Maine) (1-2) on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell to the Monks in a close matchup, 90-83, despite five Eagles recording double digits in the setback.

Making a quick recovery after falling behind early, the Eagles jumped back on an 8-2 run over three minutes to tie the game at 12-12 with 13:47 on the clock following a pair of made free throws by Isiah Hart. Husson continued to trail behind before Scott Lewis sparked a brief 6-0 run to bring within a couple buckets, 39-35, just minutes before intermission. The Eagles trimmed the Monks' lead to just two points, 48-46, at the end of the first half on a jumper in the final second from Justice Kendall. Leading scorers at the half, included Justin Thompson with 11 points for the Eagles and Jack Casale with 16 points for the Monks.

Bruce St. Peter tied the game in the opening minute of the second half, marking the second time of the afternoon that Husson caught up with Saint Joseph's, 48-48. The visitors fell behind once again thanks to four points from David Keohan, until Husson netted seven unanswered points with DJ Bussey capping the surge with a layup to put his team in the lead, 57-56, with 12:57 left to play.

With the score tied at 59-59 nearly two minutes later, St. Joe's gained some separation with seven straight points that ended with a Foley trifecta and the hosts holding a game-high 17-point (82-65) cushion with 6:13 remaining.

Husson was able to cut the SJC lead down to five points (88-83) when St. Peter made a pair of freebies to close out a 10-0 run with 24 seconds left, but Casale iced the game with two free throws of his own four seconds later to account for the 90-83 triumph.
