BANGOR, Maine– Sweeping the weekend against two Vermont schools, the Husson University men's basketball team (13-8, 9-2 NAC) took a 94-55 triumph over the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon Hornets (3-18, 2-9 NAC) on senior day for another North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win this weekend at Newman Gym. Justin Martin and Kyanti Blyden were both recognized as the only two seniors on the men's squad.
Husson opened up the half on a 21-4 run over the first seven minutes, holding NVU-Lyndon scoreless for over three minutes. Multiple Eagles helped contribute to the one-sided score in the beginning of the half. The Hornets grabbed a quick seven points to nearly cut the score in half, 23-11, thanks to some effortless shooting by Dylan Torello from the free throw line and a three by Luke Fredsell. With a mix of three's and inside scoring, while ripping down rebounds, the Eagles held the Hornets at 11 points over the next three minutes as they extended their lead to 28-11 with 8:50 remaining until halftime. Closing out the first half, Justin Thompson and Martin led Husson with 13 points apiece, as the Eagles capped off the period with a 49-21 lead.
Husson and NVU-Lyndon both came out in the second half battling for the "W," but the Eagles matched them basket for basket to keep their lead in the double digits. The Hornets picked up their game and outscored themselves by double what they had in the first half. NVU-Lyndon never stopped fighting, but Husson pulled away 94-55 at the end of 40 minutes for the senior day win.
